Jon Taylor, Personnel Manager

Jon Taylor grew up in Larchmont, NY, graduated from Mamaroneck High School, and studied the trombone with the highly respected performer and teacher, Fred Snyder, a resident of Hawthorne. Many of his early performing experiences came in orchestras around Westchester County, including the Westchester Youth Symphony, the Orchestral Society of Westchester, and the Westchester Symphony. An honors graduate of Harvard College, he received a master’s degree in developmental psychology from Yale University, which he attended on a National Institute of Mental Health fellowship. After leaving Yale to play trombone in Candide on Broadway, he performed in numerous other Broadway shows, including Porgy & Bess, Treemonisha, and Happy End. Although his professional start in New York was on Broadway, most of his performing career has been as principal trombone in symphony orchestras such as the Westchester Philharmonic and the Brooklyn Philharmonic, and for dance companies including Paul Taylor, and Dance Theater of Harlem. In addition, he has performed and recorded on trombone, euphonium, and bass trumpet with groups as diverse as the NY Philharmonic, Orpheus, the Empire Brass Quintet, American Ballet Theater, and Bugs Bunny on Broadway.

A founding member of the Westchester Philharmonic, in 1984 Music Director Paul Dunkel asked him to take on the additional responsibilities of personnel manager. In 2008, he also assumed the position of Artistic Administrator of the orchestra. He is now personnel manager for several other orchestras around New York City- the American Composers Orchestra, Brooklyn Philharmonic, and Long Island Philharmonic.

A New York City resident, he is the proud father of three children- Josh, Meeyun, and Joon- and the grandfather of a nine month old baby, Zoe.
